China's Entry into the Hague Apostille Convention

On March 8, 2023, China became a party to the Hague Convention of October 5, 1961, which eliminates the need to legalize foreign public documents. The legal effects of this Convention will come into force starting from November 7, 2023.

The apostillation of Paraguayan documents destined for China can be processed through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This measure also applies, starting from the same date, to Chinese documents intended to have legal effect in Paraguay, which must bear the corresponding apostille issued by the competent authority in the People's Republic of China.

Therefore, all documents originating from or destined for the People's Republic of China must be apostilled. This apostillation process replaces and simplifies the previous procedure of ministerial and consular legalization of documents.
